After months of speculation and the rumor mill going berserk, the highly anticipated Nikon D4 DSLR finally blessed us with its presence. With a staggering tag of $6,000, this DSLR shooter is not for ordinary mortals and is targeted at the serious photographer. However, in all the hoopla, it is easy to neglect the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G lens, which is now available on Amazon for pre-order ($499)
For use on Nikon’s FX-format D-SLR cameras, the F-S NIKKOR 85mm is a medium telephoto f/1.8 lens, designed exclusively for shooting stills or D-Movie HD videos. The new lens features a re-designed optical system, but also stays true to the Nikon roots and legacy as it also takes the classic focal length route.
Weighing around 350 grams, the weather-sealed lens has a classic 85 mm focal length, making it perfect for low light and capturing details. Compatible with Nikon FX-format D-SLRs, it offers a 127.5mm (equivalent) focal length when used with Nikon DX-format D-SLRs, and also supports entry level D-SLRs sans the autofocus motor.
The AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G has a price tag of $499.00, and is expected to start shipping from anywhere between February and March.
