The compact camera gods are probably celebrating right now as Panasonic revealed the new Lumix DMC-FZ70 camera that comes with a 20mm wide-angle lens capable of zooming of up to 60x (1200mm). This makes the digital camera the current leader in its category for zoom power. The FZ70 is a follow-up to the FZ60. Key features include a 16.1MP sensor with an aperture of f2.8-5.9, full HD video recording (1920×1080), optical image stabilizer, creative filters, and built-in Dolby Digital microphones. And get this, the Dolby mic also zooms with the camera’s optical zoom to capture the subject’s audio when shooting videos. Burst shooting is also available at 9fps in full resolution, but for only 3 images max per use. Panasonic has not included the pricing and availability of the FZ70 in their press release copy. Whether this camera will help the digital camera market gain an edge over camera-powered smartphones or not is yet to be seen.
