Hong Kong-based Conrad Electronic Intl. Ltd. is now one of the many players in the actioncam market as it announced the Socam Ultimate Action Camera. And to differentiate itself from the crop, Socam carries a 330-degree rotatable lens — which the company claimed as the first action camera to do so — in its features arsenal. With the rotating lens, Socam allows its user to freely adjust the viewing orientation however it is mounted. Other highlights include a streamlined form factor with two control buttons situated at the back for easy “blind” switching between modes. Camera specs are 1080p at 30fps video, 16MP photo and burst shots at 10fps.
Gizmag’s Ben Coxworth reviewed the Socam actioncam and writes:
“If the Socam UltiMate were less expensive, I could perhaps recommend it as an economical alternative to more established models. With a suggested retail price of US$269, however, that isn’t the case. For $69 less, you can get a GoPro Hero3 White Edition that offers most of the same features, minus the rotating lens but including a submersible housing.”
