Perhaps to fulfill the human need to be in constant communication with other people, social networking sites were born. The most well-known and the one with the most users is probably Facebook. A lot of other social networks were created after Mark Zuckerberg’s site was deemed as a huge hit.
Aside from keeping in touch with friends, family, and acquaintances, social networks are also pretty good for business. And given the amount of time that people spend accessing these sites, they also make for decent advertising areas and are good for exposure. (By the way, if you haven’t yet, then you might want to pick up The Photographer’s Social Media Handbook which will teach you how to make the most of these networks to gain exposure for your work.)
You will be pleased to know that there’s a new social network in town that was set up and established specifically for photographers. The site is called PixelPeers, and what makes it different from other social networks is that it actually comes with a list of tools that photographers will find useful for sharing their work.
Here’s a short list of PixelPeers’s features:
- Integrated social networking experience
- SEO management tools
- All members will receive a discount on Adorama purchases made through the site
- Photo stream
- Studio directory
- Pixel chat
- WordPress blogs (upcoming)
The site is subscription-based though, so you will have to pay a fee of $7.97 per month up to $9.97 per month to become a member.
