New Samsung SD Cards Tough AND Pretty 0

With CF card technology advancing and XQD cards soon hitting shelves, it’s easy to forget about SD – the most widely used consumer standard in memory cards. Samsung, however, hasn’t forgotten them; and have instead decided to make them more functionally and aesthetically appealing.

With that in mind, their new line of brushed steel SD and microSD cards not only boast some sharp looks, they also bring a level of durability not typically seen at the consumer level.

No, these cards won’t fit inside your Nikon D4 when it arrives in March, but there’s a lot more to them than meets the eye. Samsung has gone to great lengths to make these nearly indestructible. They’re guaranteed to last up to 24 hours submerged in water, are rated to take up to 1.6 tons of weight from a vehicle, and are even magnet proof up to 10,000 gauss.

In laymen terms, that means that the only way you’ll lose the data on these puppies is if you drop them to the bottom of a lake and it takes you more than a day to get to them, crush them with one of the Hummers you have laying around, or take them in with you to get an MRI (a little bit more of a magnet than even these cards can handle).

And, although few photographers will ever run their SD card over with a sedan or put it next to a high-powered electromagnet, wouldn’t it be nice to know you could?
