After what seems like an eternity of waiting, the developers behind the popular photo sharing application Instagram have some news that Android users are sure to enjoy. This news, of course, is the fact that the Android specific version of Instagram is now available for download. No, really, we’re not kidding – a quick visit to the Google Play Store will reveal the application nestled cozily among others, provided your device is compatible.
As if we haven’t beaten it into your skull enough, Instagram is an application initially available for just Apple’s iOS platform which powers devices like the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Instagram allows users to snap a pic, apply a filter, and then upload the picture for all to see. Despite being available for just iOS, Instagram has seen massive success with 30 million registrations. Now that Android users can get in on the fun, you can only imagine how high that number will climb.
From the looks of it, the Android specific application does not have any functionality past that of the iOS version. The only change here is that the user interface looks a whole lot more Android and a whole lot less iOS, as is made evident by the above screen shots.
Anyways, as we mentioned, Instagram for Android is available now free of charge. Unfortunately, the application is not yet compatible with Android powered tablets, but if you’ve got an Android powered smartphone and want to give it a go check out the Google Play listing here.[DPReview]
