Buying smartphones and consumer electronics has gotten a lot more complicated nowadays. I don’t mean the act of buying per se because, really, all we do is hand over a credit card, issue a check, or fork over the cash. Rather, I’m talking about the process of choosing from what’s available–and the time when you decide to make your purchase.
That’s because in a few months’ time, there’s probably going to be a new, upgraded version of that phone or camera that you’ve picked out.
But the biggest hassle in the entire process? It’s having to look for and buy new accessories for your device when you decide to go for an upgrade.
This is probably what designers Bojan Smiljanic and Adewale Adelusi-Adeluyi had in mind when they came up with the Capta, a hybrid accessory that grips your smartphone securely and functions as a tripod mount, phone stand, and cable management system. Throw in a tripod mount or a suction cup and you can use it in more ways than you (or the designers) initially imagined.
Like this really cool USB stick from Crypteks, Capta was a project that was posted on KickStarter and has now received $41,295 in funding from the site, which is nearly $25,000 more than what the designers’ goal.
