Today is a big day for lens rumors as Canon Rumors is speculating that Canon will be adding two new image stabilized (IS) lenses to their repertoire. Right before announcing the possibility of a new Canon EOS EF 24-70 f/2.8L lens, the rumor site also posted that two prime lenses – a 24mm f/2.8 USM and EF 28mm f/2.8 USM – may soon be joining the Canon lens ranks.
If the rumors are true then the two new lenses will be the first non-L-series prime lenses to get the IS technology, and look to be an attempt by Canon to make their IS lens selection more affordable. Price and release date are still forthcoming, but it’s nice to see Canon growing their prime lens repertoire and remembering that some of their customers (myself included) can’t always afford the more expensive equipment.[Canon Rumors]
