Canon 5D Mark III vs Canon T2i / 550D – Video Shootout ⁴

Dave Dugdale of LearningDSLRVideo just put up a comparison video between the Canon 5D Mark III and Canon T2i / 550D. The video reveals how these two cameras compare in terms of video quality – noise, moire, sharpness, dynamica range. Obviously this comparison isn’t an even match – but I like comparisons like this. Perhaps they’re a closer match than the $3000 price difference suggests. Perhaps you’ll be surprised at the results.

The Canon 5D Mark III was released a few months ago and currently sells for $3500 while the Canon T2i / 550D was released back in 2010 and currently sells for $550. Check out the comparison below and let us know if you agree with Dave’s conclusion.

Great video matchup! My only comment is that the build quality on the lower end cameras is horrible. I have 50,000+ shutter actuations on my 5D2 and it’s still going strong, but a T2i that I recently bought as a backup to the 5D2 only lasted two weeks (less than 500 shutter clicks) before it froze and wouldn’t boot up. Unfortunately all of their “budget” or consumer grade cameras are junk.

  It’s nice to hear your thoughts. I haven’t ever used a rebel myself so I can’t attest to their robustness. I can vouch for the 5D mark II though. I once had my 5D up in a kite rig and it came crashing down on a gravel road. I was pulling the whole set-up behind a car and it took 10-20 meters before I realized my gear had crashed. The lens and camera were just fine, albeit the lens got a little nic in the glass. It was a rough trip though
