If you’re familiar with Blackmagic products, then you already know how pricey their cinema cameras are. Maybe that’s the reason why they unveiled the smaller and budget-friendly Pocket Cinema Camera.
A few days ago, the Blackmagic shooter’s existence was first revealed at NAB where a banner of the product was displayed.
The Pocket Cinema Camera comes with the same MFT lens mount found on its bigger and expensive brothers, plus a Super-16 Cinema 1080HD sensor. It’s also equipped with 13 stops of dynamic range, ProRes 422, Micro HDMI monitoring, and lossless CinemaDNG RAW recording. LCD display monitor is at 3.5 inches and uses SD card for storage.
Indie filmmakers will probably find the $995 price of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera somewhat attractive for their budget. For regular videographers, this compact digital film camera just might take your YouTube videos to the next level. But you’ll have to wait until July to grab this pocket camera.
