If announcements and rumors surrounding Canon have your head spinning today then hang on, because it hasn’t stopped yet. Along with the rumored Rebel T4i and the two possible incarnations of the 5D, Canon Rumors is also reporting that three new lenses and a new flagship speedlight will likely accompany the camera releases.
Dubbed the 590EX, this speedlight will replace its predecessor – the 580EX II (pictured right) – and is the most ‘confirmed’ of the rumors as the previously mentioned 580 has already been put on an End of Life (EOL) list by an unnamed US retailer.
New Canon Lenses
As far as lenses are concerned, three are expected within the next few weeks, likely releasing alongside one or more of the aforementioned cameras:
Canon EF-S 18-135II
Fully equipped with a silent auto-focus motor for avid videographers, this lens is expected to release alongside the T4i (or perhaps in the same box), although no price has been set for the 18-135 T4i kit.
Canon 200-400 f/4L IS 1.4X
Almost as highly anticipated as it is priced, this $11,000 lens will probably be the first of the three officially announced.
Canon 40 f/2.8 Pancake (EF?)
Not yet confirmed as an EF lens, this pancake lens should be released alongside the new 5D, or soon thereafter.
And there you have it, three new lenses and one new speedlight to round out a day fraught with rumors and excitement. I don’t think I’m alone in saying that February 28th and March 2nd couldn’t possibly come any sooner.
