Eric Chiu at MAKE magazine has created a flash diffuser for a Canon Speedlight 580EX II using a 3D printer. The DIY project was spawned right after seeing his photo intern taping a piece of paper to a camera’s flash.
Obviously, the intern’s temporary diffuser didn’t last long. After many paper-diffuser-to-recycle-bin incidents, Chiu finally decided to help him. He first created a model via Autodesk Inventor and then printed it using a MakerBot 3D printer.
Chiu ended up producing two versions of the speedlite diffuser, a rectangular and a triangular. Both are made from biodegradable plastic.
