Institutions and private collectors have another date to mark on their calendars: May 12, 2012. Approximately a little over two months from now, a rare selection of 500 cameras, lenses, and accessories will be heading to the auction block at the 21st WestLicht Camera Auction.
This auction comes just two weeks after Tamarkin’s Photographica Spring Auction, where a range of rare Leica shooters and prototypes will be auctioned off. Tamarkin’s auction is scheduled for April 29, 2012.
The highlight of the auction is an exemplar of the Leica 0-Series. Only 25 of these were produced by Leitz in 1923 to test the waters for 35mm cameras. Another lot to watch out for is the gold Leica M3 pictured above, which was officially gold plated by Leitz. Only two of these gold-plated cameras are in existence today.
Other rarities to expect at the auction include:
- Shanghai Red Flag 20 outfit
- Yallu Opt. Yalluflex
- AEG wide angle lens camera
You can expect these rare and one-of-a-kind shooters to fetch record-breaking prices once they go through the auction block. You can request an auction catalog from www.westlicht-auction.com, which will be sending them out three weeks before the auction.
